These Crispy Tofu Nuggets are super easy to make and if you don't count the freezing time then they are quick to make as well. Freezing the tofu ahead of time changes the texture of it and it will be flaky and chicken-like so this recipe is perfect if you miss that texture. I like to make these Crispy Tofu Nuggets to put on top of a delicious salad and make it more filling, they are yummy as a side dish with any weeknight dinner or just as a healthy snack too!
Make this recipe for your non-vegan friends and family to impress them and show them that you're not missing out on yummy food either!
Ingredients:
300g firm tofu, frozen and thawed
150ml unsweetened plant-based milk, soy or oat
1/3 cup flour
2 tbsp garlic powder, smoked paprika
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
salt & pepper to taste
Instructions:
Freeze the firm tofu overnight, then it thaw out the next morning and repeat one more time. Carefully squeeze as much water out of the tofu as you can or press it for about 20 minutes.
In a shallow bowl, combine flour with 1 tbsp each garlic powder, smoked paprika and salt & pepper. In a separate bowl combine breadcrumbs with 1 tbsp each garlic powder, smoked paprika and salt & pepper. Pour the unsweetened plant-based milk into another shallow bowl.
Break the tofu into irregular pieces, using your clean hands. Next dip a piece of tofu into the unsweetened plant-based milk, then into the flour, back into the milk and breadcrumbs. Repeat until you have coated every piece of tofu nugget.
In a frying pan heat up a couple tablespoons of high-heat oil, we are going to shallow fry the tofu nuggets. Once the oil is hot, (which you can test by sprinkling a tiny bit of water into it, if it sizzles it is hot enough) carefully place a few breaded tofu nuggets into the pan and fry for 3 minutes on each side, until all sides are nice and golden brown. Don't overcrowd the pan, only fry a few tofu nuggets at once.
Place the cooked tofu nuggets onto a paper towel lined plate to soak any access oil off,
Serve warm and enjoy!
