Date and Chocolate Energy Balls | 5 ingredients

Updated: May 3, 2022

These energy balls are made with dates, mixed seeds, oats and cocoa powder. The dates are naturally sweet so they give the energy balls a caramel-like taste, which paired with the cocoa powder is the perfect combination of sweet and chocolatey goodness. The mixed seeds are not only a textural element in this recipe, but they also have lots of nutritional benefits like omega 3 and healthy fats. Adding the oats is a good way to make these energy balls more filling, as oats can give you energy for a longer period of time. This recipe is perfect as an afternoon snack with a cup of tea or coffee or even as a quick grab-and-go breakfast if you are busy but still want something healthy and yummy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pitted medjool dates

  • 5 tbsp quick oats

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

  • splash of plant-based milk of choice

  • 2 tsp mixed seeds

Instructions:

  1. In a blender or food processor, blend every ingredient until a sticky dough forms. It should stick together if you pinch it with your fingers.

  2. Dip your hands in a little bit of water to prevent the date mixture from sticking to your hands and form 7 even size balls.

  3. Optionally, roll the energy balls in extra cocoa powder or coconut shreds and enjoy!

Notes:

To make these energy balls to be sweeter you can add a few tablespoons of agave or maple syrup, but I find the dates sweet enough!

Any other nuts or seeds would work well in this recipe, like chopped almonds or walnuts for a crunchy textural element.

You can make a bigger batch of these energy balls and freeze them to have a ready-to-go snack over the next couple of days.
